To Stop the Escalation of Executions in Iran, Immediate International Action Is Required
To human rights organizations, labour unions, humanitarian institutions, advocates of freedom and justice,
To the United Nations, the European Union, international courts and global institutions,
To Kurdish and Iranian communities abroad,
Over recent months, a growing number of Kurdish, Iranian, and international human rights organizations have raised serious concern regarding the continued increase in executions, particularly those involving political prisoners and detainees in Eastern Kurdistan and Iran.
Reports and documented cases indicate a sharp rise in the use of capital punishment. According to available figures, hundreds of individuals have been executed in recent months, reflecting a broader pattern of repression and the continued use of executions as a mechanism of intimidation, political control, and social suppression.
Documenting these violations, publishing reports, and expressing concern remain essential responsibilities. Yet concern alone is not enough.
The current situation requires urgent, coordinated, and practical international action.
The expansion of executions, arbitrary arrests, prolonged imprisonment, restrictions on civil liberties, and limitations on public access to information have created conditions in which independent monitoring and accountability have become increasingly difficult.
Human rights advocates have repeatedly warned that vulnerable and marginalized communities—including Kurdish, Baloch, Arab, Azeri, and Afghan populations—have faced a disproportionate impact from these policies and practices.
The continued imprisonment, torture, execution, and suppression of political activists, civil society actors, and ordinary citizens contribute to a climate of fear and deepen instability across the region.
At the same time, regional tensions and political developments must not become a justification for restricting fundamental rights or silencing dissent. History demonstrates that periods of political uncertainty and security concerns often increase the risk of human rights violations and reduce public scrutiny.
Recent reports concerning arrests, executions, and the use of lethal force against civil activists have intensified concerns among human rights observers. Cases involving Kurdish activists and local community members have become symbols of broader concerns regarding accountability, due process, and the protection of civilian life.
There are also growing concerns that political agreements or geopolitical developments should not result in reduced international attention toward human rights conditions inside Iran. Historical experience demonstrates the importance of maintaining independent monitoring and ensuring that political negotiations are not allowed to overshadow the protection of human life and fundamental freedoms.
For this reason, we call upon:
Human rights organizations;
The United Nations and its relevant mechanisms;
The European Union and democratic governments;
International courts and legal institutions;
Trade unions, civil society organizations, and global advocacy networks;
Kurdish and Iranian communities abroad;
to take immediate and coordinated action aimed at:
- Preventing further executions and protecting individuals at immediate risk;
- Increasing international monitoring and independent reporting on detention conditions and judicial processes;
- Pressing for the release of political prisoners and prisoners of conscience;
- Supporting legal safeguards, due process, and accountability mechanisms;
- Opposing the use of executions and all forms of state-sanctioned killing;
- Strengthening international attention toward human rights conditions in Iran.
We further call upon Kurdish communities abroad and the political and civic organizations of Kurdistan to strengthen cooperation, raise international awareness, and support peaceful and lawful efforts to defend human rights and human dignity.
Silence enables impunity.
International action can save lives.
No to executions.
No to arbitrary detention and political repression.
Yes to justice, dignity, and fundamental human rights.
